The Fightin' Irish

The athletic program at Aquinas High School is founded in the belief that a student must exercise the mind, body, and spirit in order to fully achieve his or her potential. With that in mind, we strive to maintain a healthy balance between winning and the importance of the lessons learned through competition. Team masses, prayer, and service projects are an integral part of our programs and serve as a constant reminder to our coaches and student-athletes that we compete not for personal gain, but to act for others and model Christ.

Aquinas High School is a member of the Georgia High School Association (GHSA), a voluntary organization of both public and private schools. Membership in GHSA provides our student-athletes with the benefits of increased exposure in the larger community through competition with public schools.

All student-athletes must have a GHSA Pre-participation Physical Evaluation form on file with the athletic director before he or she can practice or compete with a team. In addition, student-athletes must meet the eligibility requirements as described by the GHSA in order to participate in sports. Eligibility is determined at the conclusion of each semester.

More than 65% of our students are student-athletes, with over half choosing to participate in more than one sport. Aquinas is a consistent producer of championship quality teams, having won numerous region and state titles, as well as providing the opportunity for numerous student-athletes to be rewarded with collegiate scholarships. The 2009-2010 school year ended with Aquinas athletics ranked 8th overall by the Georgia Athletic Directors Association—our boys ranked 4th and girls ranked 14th.

Aquinas High School offers the following interscholastic sports at the varsity level: football, cheerleading (competition and spirit), softball, volleyball, cross country, basketball, swimming, rifle, tennis, soccer, track, baseball, and golf. Junior varsity teams are offered on a year-to-year basis, depending on interest.
