Honors Literature and Composition I (Period 8)

Course Description

Similar to Lit and Composition I, but the pace is quicker and the workload is more demanding, both in number and difficulty of texts and expectations of writing assignments. Students in this course will study a variety of genres including novels, poetry, non-fiction, drama, and short stories. Application of literary terms is emphasized, as well as critical analysis of literature. There is a primary emphasis on writing instruction. Writing instruction focuses on sentence maturity and the construction of a well-developed essay (including at least one research essay) with emphasis on correct grammar, mechanics, and usage. Another component is a vocabulary program that focuses on meanings of words, their ranges of application, and their uses in context.
