MATH

*The TI-83 or TI-84 calculator is required for all math classes.

ALGEBRA 1

Prerequisite: PLACEMENT

Students will study the language, concepts, and techniques that will prepare them to approach and solve problems using a logical succession of steps.  Beginning algebraic concepts include variables, graphing, linear equations and inequalities, radical expressions, and quadratics.

GEOMETRY (Honors and College Prep)

Prerequisite: PLACEMENT

Students study Geometry as a mathematical system through the deductive development of relationships in the plane and space developed intuitively in previous years. Students will study congruent segments and angles, circle chords, secants and tangent segments, parallel and perpendicular lines, angle measure in triangles, direct and indirect triangle congruence and similarity, proofs, solids of revolution, logic, similar triangles, transformations, the Pythagorean Theorem, geometric constructions, coordinate geometry, and surface area and volume of solids.

ALGEBRA II (*Honors and College Prep)

Prerequisite: GEOMETRY

Algebra II is the study of the complex number system, symbolic manipulation, and functions. Students discuss, represent, and solve real-world problems using advanced algebraic and data analysis techniques incorporating technology. They also study the properties of functions, the algebra of functions, matrices, and systems of linear equations. Linear, quadratic, exponential, logarithmic, polynomial, rational, and trigonometric functions are studied with an emphasis on making connections to other disciplines. Both oral and written communication of the problem-solving skills used are an important part of this course.

*COLLEGE ALGEBRA WITH TRIGONOMETRY

Prerequisite: ALGEBRA II or ALGEBRA II - HONORS

Students extend the material covered in Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II in a setting that closely resembles a college algebra course.  In the first semester, students will have the opportunity to strengthen and expand algebraic concepts. The second semester will provide an intensive study of trigonometric functions, fundamental identities, trigonometric equations, and inverse trigonometric functions.

*STATISTICS

Prerequisite: ALGEBRA II (this course is of for seniors only)

This course offers students opportunities to strengthen their understanding of the statistical method of inquiry and statistical simulations. Students will formulate statistical investigative questions to be answered using data, will design and implement a plan to collect the appropriate data, will select appropriate graphical and numerical methods for data analysis, and will interpret their results to make connections with the initial question.

*ADVANCED PLACEMENT PRECALCULUS

Prerequisite: 85% in ALGEBRA II-HONORS and AP Potential score

This course will have required summer work.

In AP Precalculus, students explore everyday situations using mathematical tools and lenses. Through regular practice, students build deep mastery of modeling and functions, and they examine scenarios through multiple representations. They will learn how to observe, explore, and build mathematical meaning from dynamic systems, an important practice for thriving in an ever-changing world. -College Board

*ADVANCED PLACEMENT STATISTICS

Prerequisite: 85 % in ALGEBRA II-HONORS and AP Potential score

This course has required summer work.

Students will be introduced to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data.  Students are exposed to broad conceptual themes including patterns and departures from patterns, sampling and experimentation, random phenomena, probability, and statistical inference. -College Board

*ADVANCED PLACEMENT CALCULUS AB

Prerequisite: 85% in AP PRE-CALCULUS

This course will have required summer work.

In this demanding advanced placement course, students will learn to find derivatives and integrals of polynomials, algebraic, exponential and logarithmic, and trigonometric functions. They will use these skills to solve problems. The assigned work is difficult and lengthy and requires a great deal of independent study. -College Board
