Literature and Composition I (Period 3)

Course Description

Students in this course will study a variety of genres including novels, poetry, non-fiction, drama, and short stories. Application of literary terms is emphasized, as well as critical analysis of literature. There is a primary emphasis on writing instruction. Writing instruction focuses on sentence maturity and the construction of a well-developed essay (including at least one research essay) with emphasis on correct grammar, mechanics, and usage. Another component is a vocabulary program that focuses on meanings of words, their ranges of application, and their uses in context.
